DM-9 Dreams Ultra-Wideband AMT Drivers
★ The revolutionary DM-9a AMT Driver Ever since Mark & Daniel® had successfully developed his first- and second-generation Dreams AMT (Air Motion Transformer) drivers, from DM-1 to DM-7, M&D has made many significant breakthroughs on AMT applications and has also won the high praise of global sound experts and audiophiles. Yet Mark & Daniel does not stop there! From late 2020, we have launched the revolutionary third-generation AMT products: the DM-8 series Dreams ultra-wideband drivers! Based on the latest engineering materials plus M&D experiences on precision assembly processes, the new invented DM-8a Dreams driver is a stunning super-wideband AMT audio driver capable of operate within a 200Hz-22KHz bandwidth, reaching to over 6.5 octave frequency ranges with high C/P value, hi-fi performance, modular integration as well. There has no other similar and/or competitive AMT products ever made in hi-fi industry! * DM-8: http://www.mark-daniel.com/index.asp?Proid=31&table=sdr And in 2021, M&D’s creation of the newest third-generation, premium-grade DM-9a Dreams AMT driver is ambitiously aimed to a true audio reference driver, in pursuit of excellence and challenge to the “absolute hi-fi” target over the sound industry. Since the new modified DM-9a AMT driver has a stunning ability to regenerate across 190Hz-20KHz, it ensures all music essence can be reproduced from just one sound driver, and yields the unparalleled true hi-fi reproduction due to AMT operation mode for excellent transient response, high resolution, coherently resistive impedance, and without crossover distortions between different drivers. In addition, the remarkable invention of low-end extension down to 190Hz represents another major significant improvement for hi-fi system application: with DM-9a AMT driver, it can be directly match with the sub-woofers that popular on the market so may effectively simplify for hi-fi sound system design and complexity from now on.
★How does DM-9 Work The newest DM-9 AMT driver is reliable and durable, capable of sustaining high dynamic sound output to produce true ultra-wideband sound reproduction; the basic design of DM-9 is similar to DM-8 driver except DM-9 has employed a few more NdFeBd magnets and larger special diaphragm with innovated structure design to proper handle a higher input power and higher musical SPL output capability. Constructed with 24 micro elements, forming a 20 micron (0.0008“) aluminum ribbon in thickness, attached onto a super-thin polyimide diaphragm and pleated into shape, then meticulously fixed onto a special acoustic frame; this symmetrical ribbon array directly pumps out (or draws in) a sufficient amount of air driven by the musical current signal, responding to high dynamic and acoustic power, expending an ultra-wideband frequencies down to the amazing 190Hz and up to 20KHz then. This integrated, modular DM-9 AMT driver is therefore, a true over 6.5 octave wideband driver and has a large composite diaphragm that constitutes over 48 times the driving surface of the conventional 1” dome tweeter folded into this slim-shaped AMT sound reproducer. This unique driver is therefore, allowing for high power handling, good SPL output with low FMD pollution throughout the entire operating bandwidth, under such a compact size. * FMD: http://www.mark-daniel.com/index.asp?ID=18&table=Phylosophy DM-9’s diaphragm is sunk into an extremely strong magnetic loop with large NdFeB magnets creating a sophisticated and expensive structure to ensure proper operation of the driver, thereby yielding an outstanding ±30 degree horizontal dispersion characteristic within a 190Hz to 8KHz (-5dB) bandwidth. Vertical dispersion is low, effectively avoiding undesirable reflections from ceilings and floors for better clarity and imaging under all listening conditions; this sharp vertical dispersion characteristic may also be beneficial for building the line-array tower to cut down sound interference between the drivers. DM-9 has a relatively low impedance at 2.8 Ohms (±0.2 Ohms) and is completely coherently resistive throughout the entire audio band, without resonance, and without inductive or capacitive contributes. This perfect impedance characteristic provides a highly stable operative platform for the power amplifier; it also facilitates much simpler and more efficient crossover network design. DM-9 has a very steep roll-off slope at the low frequency end. While input signals are lower than 190Hz it will not cause distortions nor “click“ noise; it simply does not respond in this fashion due to its mechanical attenuation. Each compact-sized DM-9 sound module measures H172mm xW106 xD40mm (H6.8” xW4.2” xD1.6”). Its iron frame is rigid and heavy-duty in construction with each module weighing up to 1.4 Kg (3.1 lb); the DM-9 has a an average efficiency around 87dB/2.83V/1m. The inner wiring of the driver is also concise, only banana post connections are required at the tweeter. Different from an assembly line produced product, the manufacturing process of the Dreams AMT ultra-wideband module is both time and labor intensive, requiring extensive hours and hours to assemble and test. Rather than just a simple, mass-produced, assembly line manufactured tweeter, the Dreams AMT driver requires utmost dedication in both precision technology and artistic craftsmanship throughout its creation.
